High School Challenge returns for its 25th season on Michigan Television with an expanded selection of teams from a wide swath of southeast and mid Michigan - and a new time slot: Weekdays at 5:30 PM beginning April 14. The rapid-recall, single elimination tournament pits all sizes of high schools in competition with each other in the ‘Varsity Sport of the Mind’, often with surprising results.

Newcomers this year include Howell, Ann Arbor Huron, Livonia Churchill, Novi, Warren Mott, Rochester and West Bloomfield. Corunna High School returns to defend its 2007 championship.

In each game, teams square off against each other in four different segments. In Twenty Questions, each question is a toss-up in which any player may buzz in first. In Four by Four, each team chooses categories of questions for the opposing team to answer.  Team players may consult on questions but only the captain can provide the answer.  During a break in the action, Host Jimmy Rhoades interviews all the players and finds out about their current activities and plans for the future. In One-on-One, individual members of each team compete in 3 toss-up questions on a given theme. In the first 3 segments all questions are worth 10 points, with no deduction for an incorrect answer, but  the Double-Time round provides the opportunity for a quick change of fortunes for trailing teams. This toss-up round awards 20 points for correct answers and deducts 10 points for incorrect answers.

The final 4 teams will each receive awards to proudly display in their schools, with plaques for the semi-finalists and trophies for the champion and runner-up.
